Serif fonts have small decorative hooks (serifs) at the ends of letter strokes, creating a more traditional look, while sans-serif fonts lack these strokes and have a cleaner, more modern appearance. Common serif examples include Times New Roman and Georgia, while Avenir and Helvetica are examples of sans-serif fonts.
